Bioplastics - the future of sustainability
Our employee Judith Wingerath was at the 4th Annual Bioplastic Innovations Forum in Munich on March 5 and 6. It was put together by INVENTU.eu .
The current status of bioplastics and their areas of application, new findings and the challenges they pose were presented and discussed at the forum. End-of-life scenarios were also discussed, with a new focus on chemical recycling in particular. This is an area where a lot needs to happen in the coming years so that we can continue to think in terms of cycles.
Besonders spannend fand Judith Wingerath die Diskussion darüber, dass Biokunststoffe bereits von vielen Menschen als „High End“ Produkt angesehen werden. Während erdölbsaierte Kunststoffe seit über 100 Jahren entwickelt werden, stehen Biokunststoffe noch in ihren Kinderschuhen. Die ersten kommerziellen Biokunststoffe wurden in den 1990er Jahren auf den Markt gebracht. Die Entwicklung von Biokunststoffen hat sich seitdem rasant fortgesetzt. Allerdings besteht noch erheblicher Forschungs- und Entwicklungsbedarf, um die Eigenschaften und Anwendungen von Biokunststoffen zu verbessern. Es ist daher von großer Bedeutung, die Entwicklung von Biokunststoffen weiter voranzutreiben, um die Abhängigkeit von erdölbasierten Kunststoffen zu reduzieren und eine nachhaltigere Zukunft zu gestalten.
