Bioplastics - the future of sustainability
Our employee Judith Wingerath was at the 4th Annual Bioplastic Innovations Forum in Munich on March 5 and 6. It was put together by INVENTU.eu .
The current status of bioplastics and their areas of application, new findings and the challenges they pose were presented and discussed at the forum. End-of-life scenarios were also discussed, with a new focus on chemical recycling in particular. This is an area where a lot needs to happen in the coming years so that we can continue to think in terms of cycles.
Judith Wingerath found the discussion about the fact that many people already regard bioplastics as a "high-end" product particularly interesting. While petroleum-based plastics have been around for over 100 years, bioplastics are still in their infancy. The first commercial bioplastics were launched on the market in the 1990s. Since then, the development of bioplastics has continued at a rapid pace. But there’s still a lot of room for improvement in terms of research and development. It’s really important to keep pushing forward with bioplastics so we can reduce our reliance on petroleum-based plastics and create a more sustainable future.
We're up against a big challenge, but it's also a chance for us to play a part in shaping the future of our planet.
